Bangladesh Calls for Stronger Support for LDCs Ahead of Doha Midterm Review

News24USA.Com Desk, New York, 24 June 2026: Bangladesh has called for stronger international support for the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and the graduating LDCs by fulfilling commitments for Official Development Assistance (ODA) and expanding concessional financing.
Speaking at the General Assembly–ECOSOC Joint Thematic Event on the Midterm Review of the Doha Programme of Action (DPoA), Bangladesh’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Salahuddin Noman Chowdhury underscored the need for protecting the hard-earned development gains of the LDCs in the face of climate shocks, debt distress and ongoing energy crisis.
Highlighting Bangladesh’s own graduation journey, Ambassador Chowdhury explained the rationale of Bangladesh’s request for extension of its graduation period by three years. He also urged for strengthened global political commitment for LDCs for their graduation and beyond.
The Ambassador expressed hope that the Doha Midterm Review, to be held in Qatar in March 2027, would provide an opportunity to accelerate implementation of commitments and deliver concrete outcomes for LDCs and graduating countries.
