“ASAAL 21st Chapter opened in Houston, Texas”
Maf Misbah Uddin : We proudly announce that an inaugural meeting took place on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at the Mezban Restaurant in Houston. We gathered to form an ASAAL Houston Chapter where Kazi Zahidul Islam Milon presided the meeting and Kazi Taiba Islam was the Mistress of Ceremony.
A total of 34 people joined the first inaugural meeting with promise to move forward with ASAAL Houston!
A 23 member committee was announced with Kazi Zahidul Islam as the President and Dr. Abdullah Al Mahmoud, MD, MPH as the Secretary of the Chapter whereas Dr. Aminul Islam, MD, FACC has been appointed as the Chair of the Board of Trustees.
Executive Vice President Mohammad S. Hossain, Corresponding Secretary Eng. Emran Gazi, PE, Treasurer Dr. Ashfaque S. Haque, Political Director Dr. Roksana Aktar Khan, Director of Organizing Eng. Muhammad A. Mamun, Immigration Director Kazi Nusrat Islam, Executive Director Kazi Nazmus Sakib.
Vice Presidents: Zahidur Rahman, Mohammad Delwar Hossain, Saiful Islam, Dr. Sabrina Abedin, Miah Seraz, Mostafa Amin, Md. Kamal, and Mostafa Hasan Babu.
Trustees are Dr. Aminul Islam, MD, FACC, Chairman; Dr. Iqbal Mohammad Ph. D., and Dr. A. Mamun, Ph. D.
Women’s Committee Chair Dr. Jarina Begum, Co-Chair Kazi Nusrat Islam. Youth Committee Chair Kazi Taiba Islam.
National President Maf Misbah Uddin gave the keynote speech. He said, “I love Houston and I love you, who made it here today, your presence is encouraging, you are the reason why I do this. I know, you all have a story to tell but it is my opportunity to tell you today the ASAAL story. A story started with some ordinary people like me, organized, and doing extra ordinary things for our community and beyond!
He then added, remember, nothing is late in life as long as you start. The time has come, we must be on the table, no more in the menu for them to eat us up! We can no longer be self centered, we must be the center of all around us.”
ASAAL National Secretary Mohammad Karim Chowdhury joined virtually from New York and said, “we welcome the Houston Chapter in the ASAAL family. We only ask our people to be politically active in the community we live in and love so much. ASAAL is the bridge between our community and mainstream politics, we belong here in American politics, he added.
Chair of the Board of Trustee, Dr. Aminul Islam thanked everyone for coming, and asked everyone to join ASAAL and be part of this great organization. The work ASAAL does is very important for our community and for our future generation.
We thank brother Maf Uddin for traveling to Houston to help us start ASAAL. We are committed to help ASAAL grow and will make sure our community gets more involved in mainstream politics, he added.
Newly elected Secretary Dr. Abdullah Al Mahmoud, MD, MPH who was in Florida for a pre-scheduled conference and gave a brief remarks virtually. He said, “we are very happy that finally ASAAL is in Houston. Whatever I have learned speaking to our National President, I think it is most needed in Houston. Through ASAAL we can do more for our community and generations to come.
Eng. Emran Gazi, PE spoke from his heart, he said l didn’t know what is ASAAL but coming here and hearing the National President I have no doubt it is needed in Texas and we all must be part of it. I’m very much involved last 30 years but I think we can do more being with ASAAL.
The Houston Chapter Executive Committee took the oath of office at the end. The oath was conducted by the National President Maf Misbah Uddin.
In closing President Kazi Zahidul Islam thanked everyone for joining the meeting and be part of the ASAAL Houston Chapter Committee. He then invited everyone to have a Buffett dinner sponsored by Dr. Aminul Islam, MD, FACC and family.
