News24USA.Com Desk, New York – U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-Queens) released the following statement about the man who entered the Muslim Center of New York in Flushing, Queens with a BB gun during prayers this afternoon (Friday, July 3).
“During Friday prayers at the Muslim Center of New York in Flushing, a masked individual pulled what appeared to be a deadly weapon which turned out to be a BB gun. My team and I have been in contact with the NYPD about the incident and the suspect is in custody. I’m grateful for the law enforcement individual on the scene and the brave bystanders that took action to disarm this person, who also held him down until police arrived.
I’m relieved that nobody was hurt. But acts of violence and intimidation have no place in our society, especially in any house of worship. We must stand up against Islamophobia each time we are confronted with it.”
